Dianne Keating
Chief Executive Officer

Ms. Keating has been working for Hospice of Humboldt since 2001 and was officially appointed as CEO in July 2022 .  In this role, she is responsible for overall agency management and assists the Board of Directors with Strategic Planning.

During her significant tenure, she has played an influential role in the sustainability and mission-driven growth of Hospice of Humboldt, including the successful Capital Campaign to raise funds for the current Hospice of Humboldt Homecare building, chapel, and Ida Emmerson Hospice House and the successful launch of the Home-Based Palliative Care program.

Tia Baratelle
Director of Development
 

Ms. Baratelle has been a professional fundraiser since 2009, working with small, mid-size, and large non-profit organizations. She joined Hospice of Humboldt in April 2021. Previously she worked at Planned Parenthood Northern California, overseeing fundraising and community engagement efforts in twelve northern counties, from Mendocino County to the Oregon and Nevada borders.

 

She holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration with a concentration in non-profit management from Sonoma State University and is also a proud Humboldt State University alumnus with a B.A. degree in Political Science.

 

Ms. Baratelle is responsible for Hospice of Humboldt’s philanthropic and community relations programs and activities. She plans, develops, and implements fundraising efforts, including annual giving, planned giving and major gift programs.

Julie Chiarelli
Director of Finance & Business Services

Ms. Chiarelli began her career in the early 80’s in Texas, first as a CPA in public accounting, later earning an MBA and providing economic litigation consulting and fraud investigations. After a transfer to Arizona, she took a brief sabbatical to focus on child-rearing, community volunteer efforts and relocation to California, returning to the workforce in the late 90’s with a commitment to provide support for mission-focused non-profit organizations.

 

In the past 20 years, Ms. Chiarelli has worked in finance and management for public media organizations, completed a gerontology program, managed assisted living facilities and volunteered for various organizations, including hospice. She most recently spent four years as Finance Director for another Northern California non-profit hospice.  With a deep love of the work of Hospice of Humboldt, she is honored to be here supporting those who offer compassionate end-of-life services to our community.

As the Director of Finance & Business Services, Ms. Chiarelli oversees all of the patient billing, accounts payable and receivable, and payroll functions. She also works closely with the Board of Directors’ Budget and Finance Committee.

Elisa Klan
Director of Patient Care Services

Ms. Klan graduated with honors, magnum cum laude, from the University of Vermont, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2009. She then went on to receive additional hospice training through the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization’s Hospice Manager Development Program.

 

Ms. Klan joined Hospice of Humboldt in 2013 as an RN Case Manager and became a clinical manager

in 2014.

As the Director of Patient Care Services, she is responsible for the oversight of the nursing, admissions, and palliative care departments, which include registered nurses, licensed vocational nurses, and home health aides.

Lisa Parris
Director of Quality

Ms. Parris joined the Hospice of Humboldt team in January of 2023.  She has an extensive quality and compliance background in the healthcare field.  She spent six years at Open Door Community Health Centers, ultimately serving as their Quality Improvement Manager.  Prior to that, she was the Quality Improvement Analyst at United Indian Health Services. 

She provides leadership and oversight to the agency in all matters pertaining to compliance and quality. Ms. Parris is also responsible for our Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Program and serves as our Compliance Officer and Risk Manager.

Jeanne Reilly

Director of Social Services

Ms. Reilly joined the Hospice of Humboldt team in February of 2018.  She has over 35 years of experience as a social worker in Humboldt County.  

 

Ms. Reilly began her career as a social worker for Child Welfare Services then worked at St. Joseph and Redwood Memorial Hospital for 22 years rising from a social worker to Area Manager of Social Work. She is a licensed clinical social worker who graduated with her Bachelor of Arts  and Master of Social Work from Humboldt State University.

 

Ms. Reilly supervises social workers, chaplains, grief support counselors, and the volunteer coordinator. She is responsible for ensuring the quality of social work, chaplaincy, grief support, and volunteer services provided to patients and families are maintained.

Sarah Shanahan

Director of Human Resources

Ms. Shanahan joined Hospice of Humboldt in November 2015.  Previously an associate director at the University of Washington in Seattle, she brings over ten years of diverse human resources and operations experience to Hospice. 

 

Ms. Shanahan received her Bachelor of Arts in Economics from University of the Pacific and holds a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Washington. She is a certified member of the Society of Human

Resource Management.

 

Ms. Shanahan is responsible for all Hospice of Humboldt personnel matters, including recruitment, retention, employee relations and benefits administration, and ensures agency compliance with all state/federal labor laws.
