Community Ritual

Heart of Hospice Path DedicationSaturday, November 18, 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Join us in commemorating engraved bricks that form the memorial Heart of Hospice path, winding from the Ida Emmerson Hospice House to the Chapel in the Redwoods.  Honor someone you miss with a serene walk down the path and through the redwood trees.  Ceremony in the Chapel includes blessing and light refreshments.

Community Arts Gathering  Nurturing Relationships with Self and Others
Saturday, November 18, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Grief involves navigating the world in a new way. We find ourselves without our loved person by our side or on the other end of the phone. Some who are grieving also experience being misunderstood or treated differently by the people still in their lives. Contemplating our remaining relationships and what they both give and ask of us as we work our way through grief can be helpful. We will explore how to honor, nurture, and balance the relationships we have with others and ourselves to both experience and heal our loss.
For more information or to register, call Julie D. or Gretchen at 707-267-9801

Light Up a Life Candlelighting CeremoniesWednesday, December 6, at 4:00 p.m. and at 7:00 p.m.
Hospice of Humboldt understands the benefit of passing ritual milestones during the period of grieving. One way to remember and honor your loved one is to attend our annual community remembrance ceremony. The Light Up a Life Memorial Candlelighting Ceremony is free to anyone in the community who would like to remember a loved one, regardless of Hospice of Humboldt’s involvement. Pictures and small mementos of your loved one can be placed on the ceremonial altar during the ceremony. All items will be returned to the owner at the end of the ceremony.  We invite you to gather with your friends and family to hear music and words of comfort, and light a candle to the life that has meant so much to you.

Community Arts Gathering  Writing Insights to Oneself
Saturday, December 16, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Grief has a tendency to make us look again, ponder, and contemplate deeply the assumptions we hold, mysteries we carry, choices we make. Often, through the rendering of this search, we discover ourselves anew. We find that we know sometimes more, and sometimes less, than we thought.  Grief offers a painful yet wide expanse in which to continue one’s “becoming.” Through the creation of a memory book, book of letters to oneself, or book of images, we will explore how best to harness our own wisdom.
