Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer With Us

Hospice volunteers bring a special kind of caring to Hospice patients and their families.

Whether it is sorting clothes to sell at the Hospice Shop, playing chess with an elderly patient, or walking a patient's beloved dog,  our volunteers tell us that they receive tremendous personal satisfaction from helping others.

We provide all the training you need to make a difference in our community.

Call us at 707-267-9813 today to get started and join our group of lively and committed volunteers.

Patient Care Volunteer

Patient Care Volunteers are specifically trained to provide emotional support, companionship, assistance with practical tasks, and limited personal care when the caregiver or family members take a break. Volunteers can be assigned for ongoing contact or may be used for one-time support. A patient care volunteer adds to the comfort and quality of our patients' and families' lives.

The Hospice Shop

Volunteers at The Hospice Shop in Arcata assist with sorting, organizing, displaying, and pricing donations.

A four hour a week commitment is requested for Hospice Shop volunteers.

Grief Support Services

Grief Support Services Volunteers receive extensive training to facilitate one of our many grief support groups or workshops. This dedicated group of volunteers assists Hospice in delivering a core service, vital to not only Hospice families, but to the community at large as any person in grief may attend our groups and workshops.

Office Volunteers

Office volunteers help with clerical and administrative activities by copying an putting together packets of information, filing, assembling patient handbooks, and a variety of other tasks.  Office volunteers are important members of the Hospice support team and usually work a regular weekly schedule.

Pet Peace of Mind

Pet Peace of Mind volunteers assist with routine pet care needs for patients who are unable to care for their pets while on hospice.  This includes activities such as dog walking, maintenance of litter boxes, transportation to veterinary appointments.  Volunteers also assist with coordinating the Pet Peace of Mind Program at Hospice.

Auxiliary Volunteers

Hospice Auxiliary Volunteers provide clerical and fundraising assistance with specific events like Light Up a Life. They also make a social event of preparing mailings for the Outreach Department throughout the year. This is an ideal group to join with a friend -- or a great way to make new ones!
